Why Having an Older Brother Is One of the Best Things That Could Ever Happen to You
Those who have older brothers know that growing up with one is tough, but at the same time, it’s also one of the most blessed things that can happen to you. Sometimes he can drive you crazy and make you want to pull your hair out, but he will always love you unconditionally and there are a lot of reasons why we shouldn’t take their presence in our lives for granted.
We at Bright Side wanted to dedicate this very article to show just how lucky all of you who have older brothers are.
1. He can introduce you to sports.
Brothers like to be competitive, and having an older brother means having a sparring partner in almost any sport throughout your entire childhood. If you like sports activities, chances are you have lots of memories playing with your big bro in your childhood.
2. He can teach you how to be cool.
Your older brother has a major influence on your life, and he’s probably the one you look up to, even if you don’t know it. He’ll teach you all about the latest trends, music, and how to act cool without embarrassing yourself. When it comes to virtually everything there is to learn about the world and how to be cool, you’ll probably learn it from your brother.
3. He can teach you how to stand up for yourself.
Your older brother will teach you everything he knows about life and will make it his mission to make a fearless person out of you. Older brothers have a tendency to position themselves as role models for their younger siblings, and they will never let you go out in the world unprepared.
4. You’re friends with his friends and they all can protect you.
Not only will your older brother protect you, but all of his friends will always be there to get you out of trouble, if need be. Your brother’s best friends will treat you as one of them, so it’s a good thing to know that you have a lot of people looking out for you.
5. He doesn’t let you make the same mistakes he did.
Your brother will always be one step ahead in life, in terms of experience, and he will use that experience to tell you what you should and shouldn’t do in life. He has already walked the road you’re about to walk and he will always tell you what the right thing to do is, from his own experience.
6. He knows what’s best for you.
Even though he might tease you at times, your older brother won’t ever let you make the wrong choices when it matters. He’ll always make sure you stay on track and do the right thing, and even if you don’t see it, he’ll always be there watching over you, to make sure you don’t do something too stupid.
7. He can take the fall for you…
Although your brother may rat you out to your parents if you take the last of his candy, he’ll never let you get into real trouble. Your older brother will always protect you and he’ll even sacrifice himself for you, without thinking twice.
8. …and help you get up when you fall.
Having an older brother means having a best friend for life. You can always count on him to come through, even when you mess up big time. Big brothers understand what it is like to make mistakes, and they will never judge you.
9. You finally understand the meaning of a true love-hate relationship.
There will be days when you think your big brother is the coolest person you want to hang out with, but there will also be days when you just want to slap him in the face. The relationship you have with your brother will teach you a lot about what it is like to have a love-hate relationship, and even though you may fight with him a lot, you know you can’t stay mad at each other for long.
10. But, most importantly, he is always there for you.
You can always count on him to come through, in good times and in bad. Your brother won’t judge you. He may be harsh with you, show some tough love, and even point out your flaws every now and then, but he will never stop caring for you. And whatever happens, you’ll know that you can always count on him.
