Here’s What Our Favorite Actors Who Left “Grey’s Anatomy” Are Doing Now

There are TV series that will forever go down in history as a “must see” and Grey’s Anatomy is one of them. With no less than 15 seasons on air, this series and its iconic characters managed to win the hearts of millions of fans from all over the world.

Bright Side brought together more than 11 great actors who’ve participated in the series and now shine in other works on and off the big screen. Here’s what your favorite Grey’s Anatomy stars are up to now.

1. Patrick Dempsey

This American actor’s career began in the 1980s, but he is best known for his role as Dr. Derek Shepherd in the series. Patrick ceased to be the center of attention when he left it in 2015, in order to devote himself to car racing. He is currently a semi-professional pilot, and participates in major races and events, like the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

2. Isaiah Washington

This actor was part of the United States Air Force before studying acting at Howard University. He starred in several films, series, and plays, and, in 2005, he joined Grey’s Anatomy, staying there until he was fired for homophobia charges. Due to this controversy, it took him time to return to work, but he managed to land a role in the fifth season of the series The 100.

3. Sandra Oh

The actress began her career at age 10 in a school musical called The Canada Goose. Sandra studied drama at the National Theater School in Montreal, and has been involved in the acting world since 1989. She played in Grey’s Anatomy from 2005 to 2014, and won 3 awards for her brilliant portrayal of Christina Yang. She currently stars in the acclaimed Killing Eve series.

4. Katherine Heigl

This American actress and model began her career at age 9 with the help of her aunt, and in 1992 she starred in the television series That Night. After acting in many movies and series, Katherine joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Izzie Stevens, from 2005 to 2010. Currently, the actress is playing Samantha Wheeler in Suits.

5. Eric Dane

Eric Dane has starred in big movies like X-Men: The Last Stand and Marley and Me, but his claim to fame came thanks to Grey’s Anatomy, where he played Dr. Mark Sloan from 2006 to 2012. He retired from the series to be the protagonist of The Last Ship, a production that lasted 5 seasons and ended in 2018. Now, the actor plays Cal Jacobs in the HBO series Euphoria.

6. Chyler Leigh

In 1997, the actress played Cindy in Kickboxing Academy. She then gave life to Dr. Lexie Gray for 6 seasons in Grey’s Anatomy, until her character suffered a tragic death that shook fans deeply. Since 2015 Chyler has played Alex Danvers, the adopted sister of the protagonist, Kara, in the Supergirl series.

7. Sarah Drew

The actress, who became famous thanks to her role as Dr. April Kepner in Grey’s Anatomy, began her career at age 17, doubling as the character of Stacy Rowe on the animated series Daria. After acting in many other shows like Glee and Supernatural, Drew joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy and left the show at the end of season 14 following a 10-year run. Sarah’s most recent works were in the pilot series of Cagney & Lacey and The Republic of Sarah.

8. Jeffrey Dean Morgan

This experienced actor has had great success in his 30-year career. His work on series like Supernatural, Star Trek, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, earned him great admiration in the field of acting. In Grey’s Anatomy, he played Denny Duquette between 2006 and 2009. Today he gives life to the villain, Negan, in The Walking Dead.

9. T. R. Knight

This actor, who rose to fame playing Dr. George O’Malley in Grey’s Anatomy, left the series to work on plays, films, and other productions like Law and Order: Criminal Intent and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He participated in 102 episodes of Grey’s, but left the series due to a disagreement with another co-worker. His last appearances were in 2017, in the series The Catch, When We Rise, and Genius.

10. Sara Ramírez

The Mexican-born actress was very successful on Grey’s Anatomy, where she acted for 10 years as the orthopedist Callie Torres. Previously, she had worked on other important productions like Spider-Man, Law and Order: SVU, and Third Watch. Since 2017 she has had a fixed role in the Madam Secretary series. Her exquisite way of acting has earned her 7 awards, 5 of which she obtained for her role as a doctor.

11. Loretta Devine

Adele Webber, the character that the actress brought to life in Grey’s Anatomy, died in 2013, in season 9. With recurring performances in the plot, she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 2011. Loretta has also starred in shows like Everybody Hates Chris and Supernatural. Currently, she plays Mrs. Carmichael on The Carmichael Show.
