11 Winter Trends That Are Finally Outdated
Modern fashion is changing very fast and even the newer trends disappear in the blink of an eye. This is why the easiest way to stay trendy, and not waste all of your money, is to make sure that you have all the basics that are always in fashion and a few ultra-new pieces that you refresh a few times a year.
Bright Side consulted our reliable fashion sources and found out which things are not going to be trendy in 2019-2020 for winter and how they can be replaced.
Coats made of long faux fur
These fur coats, often called lamas, have long and fluffy fur that gives them an unusual look. But now, for some reason, trendsetters are giving up on these coats. They are being replaced with the so-called teddy bear coats. These coats are soft and the color can be whatever you want — the more unusual, the better.
Supersize puffers
Giant oversize puffers were a huge hit, but now they are losing their popularity. Despite the fact that oversize clothes are still trendy in general, big puffers are losing their position. More classic models are becoming widely-used again.
Form-fitting puffers with a belt
You’ll still see a lot of girls wearing tight puffers that are knee-length pretty often, they have an elastic belt and a hood made with natural fur. However, one of the biggest trends in recent time is a big silhouette that makes the upper part of the body look bigger. This is why wider, or at least straighter, coats are probably a better choice now.
Parkas with fur
About 2 years ago, almost everyone had a coat like this and colored fur (faux or natural) was one of the biggest features of it. And the more fur there was, the more expensive the parka was. But today, any fur decorations on parkas are a thing of the past. Now, aviator jackets, and long coats are trendy — they have completely replaced parkas.
Fur vests that look like caterpillars
This is not just about not using natural fur — because even faux fur is used less now. Fur vests are okay, as long as they don’t have this caterpillar style. Stylists recommend against wearing them and these vests have been replaced with sleeveless dresses and cardigans in different colors and textures.
Knitted berets with a big top or hats with decorations
Fashion houses have come up with new kinds of hats that are going to be trendy in the next few seasons — and there are no knitted berets with big tops. The same goes for the hats with beading, flowers, and other cute decorations. Instead, designers highlight more classic models, even fedora hats are coming back. During the latest fashion shows, they suggested replacing hats completely and wearing a small headband in their place, but this is not the best idea for the colder regions.
Beanie hats are more modern now. This model is good for all facial types and universal for any winter outfit — and it can be worn with puffers, coats, and fur coats.
Short wool and knit dresses
This trend was a bit strange, but very popular, and supported by a lot of retailers: you could find these dresses in almost any store — they were usually grey, black, or white. They were made out of a knit fabric — usually wool or synthetic materials. Also, it wasn’t very clear how to wear them in cold weather: the sleeves could be long, but the legs were still open and could only be covered with tights. Now, midi-dresses are more trendy — they are both warm and they look great.
Tights with designs and logos
The ultra-trendy tights with a bunch of logos and flower pictures are not in fashion anymore. It was pretty hard to combine them with the rest of the outfit: pictures and colors made it almost impossible to focus on any other parts. Now, single-colored tights are trendy. They can be any color — dark red, blue, grey, or even pink. Besides, these tights make the legs look much more attractive.
Skinny jeans tucked into boots or pants and jeans over boots
A little while ago, people believed that tucking jeans into boots (especially high boots) was in poor taste: either the jeans should cover the shoes or you should wear skirts and dresses. But modern fashion gives us more space: tucking pants or straight jeans into them is actually OK. Just make sure that the pants or jeans are not skinny.
Sock boots
These boots, with an elastic upper part, were a hit among all trendy women, but now is the time to stop wearing them. But you don’t need to get rid of them completely, there is a chance that sock boots will be fashionable again. But these boots are not designed to be used in cold weather, they are only good for fall and spring. So for now designers have gone back to the classic boots with a straight upper part and stylists recommend combining coats and puffers with combat boots.
Dirty-looking trainers
This trend appeared last winter after Gucci began to market old-looking sneakers. Very soon, other famous brands started making shoes like this and then these sneakers were just about everywhere, each season. But not everyone liked this trend, so it started to die out. Regular-looking sneakers are still popular, so it is better to buy those to avoid any risk.
